Sing Lustily & With Good Courage
Singing is probably my favorite part of worship. I think I have mentioned this before :) but it bears repeating because of the effects of singing.
I like it when we sing lots of verses, when we learn new tunes, and when I can hear the voices of others nearby. I dont like it when verses are omitted in the *interest of time*.
And I do like it when the words to the last hymn sum up the sermon/service.
The type of music used and sung in congregational worship is a strong factor in my choice of churches, second to the preaching.
Hence my sheer delight when Carol at Magistramater posted John Wesley's Instructions for Singing. Aha!! I was off and running, looking for source material. Isnt *Google* just wonderful?
That's how I found this amazing collection of 18th and 19th century hymns accompanied by original type instruments. Maddy Prior is new to me, but because she used Wesley's Instructions in her program notes, I bought her CD. Read the Sleeve notes on my blog.
No need for me to keep rambling about this joyful music. Listen yourself.
This would make a good Christmas gift.
It's less than 100 days away.
Yikes!

*You* are one of the best follow-uppers I know. You don't just read and nod and click to the next thing. You say, "I want to know more" and go find it. And I am a very grateful recipient of your work.
Maddy Prior sang with Reverend Gary Davis. The blues guy I love, Eric Bibb, wrote a song and the Reverend Gary Davis is in that song; I think it's called "Still Livin' On".
I love connections. I am SO fired up!
Yes, *overload* is a good way to describe everything which is going on in my head right now. And if I dont get it out through writing/posting, I think I'm gonna burst! While your purging post from yestserday conjured up guilt feelings, I'm trusting that there will be blitz coming my way soon.
Glad you like the new music :)
