Hickory Log Creek Dam
Getting out and about in my own small town has been fun this past few weeks as I've been chalking up miles for the Idita-walk Challenge 2008. Pictured below is a newly completed dam in Cherokee County.
I'd been reading about it in the newspaper, so DD#3 and I took a walk late one Saturday afternoon in order to find it. Here's a link to the Dam's website. It's interesting to me, especially in light of Georgia's drought and recurrent bickering over water flowing from/to neighboring states. There is a fun story in a family history book, My Flovilla, about my great aunt taking a ride in a wagon to see the newly constructed dam in her county in 1907! They had a picnic. Furthermore, blogging buddy, Laura, has a 1929 book in her library about water supply. It's written by Mrs. Holway Kerr. Wonder what she has to say?
Pictured below is the beginning of Reservoir Drive. We set out at a brisk pace and it wasnt long before we reached our destination.
It's probably about one mile to this location below, the First Baptist Church of Canton, from whose parking lot I took the picture of the dam. Not a lovely building architecturally...but they're growing by leaps and bounds, so maybe this is the shell for bigger/better things to come. Or I hope so :)
As we turned around and started back to the car, which was just over a mile away, we realized that this cloud was trailing us. We did get rained on, but thankfully didnt melt. No photo opts to prove that tho' :)
Check this link for the beautiful rainbow we saw, as we neared the car - a mere 60 minutes since we'd left it.
This Saturday afternoon is begging for a walk.
Where to go?
